If you think the joys of climbing mountains, trekking across dales, and falling into bogs have to end when you leave Imperial... think again! You can join the growing ranks of Fellwanderer graduates in "Fellwanderers Forever".

Upcoming Events

We are a group of alumni that arrange one or two treks (normally one or two weeks in length) a year, typically in locations that are relatively far flung from Britain. Trips during the past decade have ranged from being in the relatively tame mountains of California's Yosemite to the challenging landscapes surrounding Tanzania's Mt. Kilimanjaro and Alaska's Wrangell-St Elias range. In general, our aim is to create a variety of treks of varying difficulties such that both recent graduates with little expedition experience and veterans with a lot of miles under their boots can both find what they want.

We communicate via a mailing list - fellwanderers@yahoogroups.com - you can find out more on Getting in Touch. So if you are graduating soon, joining the committee, or just interested in seeing what alumni Fellwanderers talk about please feel free to subscribe.

We're working on getting all our photos in one place, but in the meantime, you could take a look at some photos from previous trips, such as Yosemite and Sequoia or Yellowstone.

  • Sustenhorn the Sequel! As some of you may remember, in early summer 2009 Jens Hamprecht led a group to Switzerland to climb the Sustenhorn (3504 m). Pretty pictures of this can be viewed here. This was lots of fun and we only (nearly) lost Matt in a crevasse. Also, this trip was also a great opportunity to learn the basics of crampon/ice axe use and glacier walking. So in 2011, Jens and Chris are thinking of running a similar 4-day trip to another mountain in the Swiss Alps. This will be in late July, both for the best chance of good weather and to avoid clashing with the student summer tour which is usually in early July. So proposed dates are ...

  • New Year 2010/11 Phil had this one was suggested to him in the pub last week and sounds an excellent idea. Basically go to Scotland over new year and do some walking. Dates something probably like 27,28 or 29 Dec to 2nd or 3rd January. 27th, 28th and 3rd are all bank holidays in England (plus 4th is also a bank holiday in Scotland) – due to the way Christmas falls. Now, you will probably be thinking its’ cold, dark and a long way – these things are all true, however, the mountains in Scotland are worth the drive/train journey/plane ride etc.., there won’t be loads of tourists dropping rocks on your head like the Lake District or North Wales, and ...

  • A long weekend in January, February or March next year. Phil is planning a long weekend much along the lines of those in 2007 and 2008 – meet in Scotland Thursday evening; walk Friday, Saturday or Sunday and perhaps Monday, then travel back on Monday evening. He’ll find a location which is reasonably accessible, so if people need to leave early or arrive late they can. He's put a doodle poll online at http://www.doodle.com/g4vihxqir3682c7h with six suggested weekends. If you are interested then add your name to the poll and tick on the weekends you can do – he’ll pick the weekend with the most votes.
